Frequently asked questions

The following are a few commonly asked questions in regards to our ICONZ Satellite broadband Internet connections.

How do I sign up for ICONZ Satellite?

Simply call ICONZ on 0800 THE NET (0800 843 638) to be sent an application form.

Can I do my own installation?

No, not unless you complete the Authorised iPstar certified Training Course and become a qualified installer. There is a cost for these training courses.

Can I provide my own equipmenT required for the installation?

No, this is specialised equipment and it's not interchangeable with any other satellite services offered in the market place.

Can I use the i-hug satellite dish?

No

How fast is the satellite service?

Download and upload speeds are not equal on a standard Satellite plan. This is a contended, burstable service up to a maximum speed of 256Kbps download speed. It is a 'best efforts' service for which the speed you get depends on the number of users online at any one time. For example; on an ICONZ S1 plan, the download speeds will be burstable up to 256Kbps with upload speed burstable up to 128Kbps. Please note the above information is a rough estimate of typical usage types.

Can I have dedicated bandwidth and speeds?

Yes, ICONZ offers a range of dedicated bandwidth options to suit commercial users, video conferencing and other such uses. Pricing is available on request for these services. Please contact us on 0800 THE NET (0800 843 638) to discuss your needs.

What is the lead time for this service to be installed?

We endeavour to complete installation within 14 days of when your order is placed. There may be a delay in relation to your geographical location.

Can I get a Static IP address?

All ICONZ Satellite connections come with one (1) static IP address. If more than one IP address is required, this may be available; however, it needs to be discussed with your Account Manager.

Does the satellite equipment come with a warranty?

All ICONZ Satellite installations come with a 12 month manufacturers warranty on equipment. Fair wear and tear policy applies.

  • Any equipment failure during the 12 month warranty period is replaced at no charge to the customer.
  • For any equipment failure during the 12 month warranty period that is the result of customer negligence, the cost of repairing the fault is the customer's responsibility.

This Warranty will be void if any component of the Satellite equipment is opened or repaired by someone not authorised by IPStar, and does not cover repair or replacement of any Satellite equipment damaged by: misuse, moisture or liquids, proximity or exposure to heat, accident, abuse, neglect, misapplication, or defects due to repairs or modifications made by anyone other than an authorised IPStar technician. The Warranty does not cover physical damage to the surface of the Satellite equipment, including cracks and / or scratches.

This Warranty also does not apply if the malfunction results from the use of the Satellite equipment in conjunction with accessories, products, services or ancillary or peripheral equipment not expressly approved or provided by IPStar specifically for use with your satellite equipment.

What Installation policy does ICONZ have in place?

All installations are carried out to the highest possible quality standards. An installation is not deemed to be live until full site commissioning and sign off has been completed. Therefore, the installer should not leave the site without having established a live connection (which is tested by ICONZ at the time of install).

The customer is expected to maintain the equipment in reasonable working order.

If a fault occurs due to weather conditions (for example, dish realignment is required due to gale-force winds), force majeure or any reason beyond the control of ICONZ, the cost of repairing the fault is the customer's responsibility.

What is the Installation Demarcation point?

The boundaries for each party's responsibility is often a grey area when it comes to setting up the computer after installation. To make this clear from the outset the following guidelines should be taken into account:

  • ICONZ responsibility is to install the total satellite solution with the demarcation point of the IDU - indoor terminal unit.
  • Any equipment or connection after the IDU is your responsibility to carry out any advanced internal networking, routing or configuration required.

The installers will leave a cross over cable or Ethernet cable (whichever is required) for between the IDU and the computer.
If you require any non standard, advanced internal networking, routing or configuration support from ICONZ or onsite support this is available, but chargeable at $150 + GST per hour.

The ICONZ Technical Support team is able to support you by assisting you to check that your PC settings are correct for your satellite connection and may help set up Internet connectivity and email settings. Please contact us on 0800 THE NET (0800 843 638) then select option 3 for our ICONZ Technical Support team.
