Customer Service - Often Outstanding or Always Average?

Hello everyone, and welcome to the latest foray into blogging from your friendly everyday ICONZ team.

As Operations Manager at ICONZ I’m responsible for all of the customer-facing parts of our business – so if our clients have a problem, the buck stops with me. Sales have targets as a measurement of success but my team’s yard stick is centred on one thing - service and service delivery excellence. Today I’d like to talk about that elusive art of customer service - something which lots of companies talk about, but very few actually do well.

Data sovereignty: the MANY risks AND PERILS of assumption

An IRD alert to New Zealand businesses warning that "only records stored in New Zealand-based data centres comply with record-keeping obligations" highlights some lax attitudes towards cloud vendors. Now then, before you step on the boat and head offshore for cloud computing services, take a careful look.

Social Media - Beyond the hype

Social Media (SM for short) goes by many names such as: Marketing 2.0 & Web 2.0. There are also many methods for SM such as SMO – Social Media Optimisation and SMM – Social Media Marketing. But what actually IS social media?

Social Media: The Final Call

To Be or not to be?

A question that businesses have asked the same amount of times as I’ve heard the words Social Media, which let me tell you is quite a few! So why is the question still lingering? Surely it’s either a yes or no decision & Social Media is by no means the latest thing to hit the internet so why are we still asking the question?

What the Hell is Cloud Computing?

Blog author: Sean McDonald (Former ICONZ CEO)

When new technology trends arrive, as it did with Cloud Computing in 2008, the airwave chatter is awash with commentary and before you know it, everyone rushes to claim their “market leading” position. Just like Harvey Normans or Farmers BIGGEST EVER sale, we buy the latest and greatest, hook line and sinker, every time! What strange people we are.

Sharing a few thoughts

Some time ago I was approached by the very inspirational Peter Anich of Motivation Men. Now if you have not heard of this Company, spend a few minutes checking out their website, it’s really great stuff and in good old kiwi tradition, just good honest slices of information with lashings of humour.

Its certainly A journey not a destination

OK Sean, when is this social media initiative going to pay off? I get this often from my board. Groan..

Snooze and you will lose...

Many of New Zealand’s leading companies and iconic brands have had their unique domain names (website URL addresses) purchased by 'internet squatters' over the last week.

So cloud, what's the future?

The Future of Cloud Computing, what say you?

With time on my hands over the weekend (a rare thing with teenage boys) I very strangely found myself pondering the future of cloud computing. Now before I recieve your mocking tones, I was actually preparing for an article I had been asked to write by a local print publication of some repute so I needed to put my foot down and come up with the goods. Free time was at hand so........I started pondering.  Here were/are my thoughts.

The decision to host your IT infrastructure

Blog author: Sean McDonald (Former ICONZ CEO)

Welcome to my very first blog post.

In this article and many others that will follow I will present opinion on issues that relate both to our company, ICONZ and the hosting industry in general. Not being an uber-technologist or an accountant I have a reasonable grasp on reality and simple speak so you can expect to see good old straight forward talking from yours truly.
